Meet Kara & Marni

We are Kara and Marni, twin sisters cooking and blogging away from our respective countryside and city locations.
We see the act of cooking and entertaining as a form of creative expression, an art that encourages the mixing of flavors, spices, techniques and stories. Our interest in cooking dates back to our Greek grandmother’s open-arms approach, letting us taste her delicious creations like her famous spanakopita. Our fascination with food and culture continued during our travels abroad in Europe where we saw firsthand the limitlessness of cooking. Our collaboration flourished in our shared, tiny North End, Boston kitchen and continues in our respective locations. . .

Country-side Kara resides in rural Connecticut. This year, she was overjoyed to welcome twins Zoe and Conor. You can often find Kara wrangling the now crawling twins, making purees during naptime (Zo loves avocado combinations, Co banana) and walking with her husband, Patrick and Hound-mix, Shiloh in the serene Audubon, just steps from her door. You'll find Kara baking madelines and seasonal galletes, and entertaining with an impromptu tapas spread for moms in the neighborhood. Once the babes are asleep, she continues to enjoy a glass or two of Malbec.

An hour away, City-side Marni calls Boston home. When not visiting her twin niece and nephew, she's often on the hunt for a new restaurant, brewery or live music spot. Forget about public transit-Marni takes in her surroundings on foot, walking everywhere from Harvard Square, to Newbury Street, to the SoWa Market. She too loves to entertain in the modern apartment with vintage touches that she shares with her husband, Ryan. Playing with different platters and presentations, Marni favors assorted crostinis, a Meze plate with figs, feta, and cured meats, a "thrown together" fresh pasta dish using whatever is in season, and of course some kind of gin "up" concoction featuring a flavored simple syrup.

Over a slice of pie (for Marni, peanut butter and chocolate and for Kara, key lime), we love collaborating, sharing our own experiences, and coming up with new recipes. Stay tuned!
