We have different kinds of beach days. Sometimes, we pack our coolers with curried chicken sandwiches, park ourselves on the beach, commit to an all day session of sunbathing and swimming, and end the day with a Peanut Butter Fudge or Mint Patty ice cream cone from Captain Dusty’s. When in a different beaching mood, we venture to the shore in late afternoon. Arranging our beach chairs while sunburnt beachgoers wind down, the early evening time-slot is often our favorite time to gather. At this in-between time of day, we bring chilled jars of refreshing drinks and fill our totes with some light nibbles.
One of the most simple and hydrating drinks to prepare is infused water. Basically using whatever we have on hand, here are some of our favorite variations:
Watermelon and mint
Cucumber, lemon and lime
Strawberry and basil
Before the beach, place all ingredients in a pitcher or large covered vessel, fill with water, and let chill/meld for at least an hour in the refrigerator before drinking. The finished product is a beautiful, aromatic, all-natural refresher.
To pair with the blend, here are some of our favorite quick nibbles:
Hummus, Baba Ganoush, and Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Dip
Naan or Pita bread
Cherry tomatoes and speared veggies
Assorted marinated olives
Cherries and sliced watermelon
Wearing airy tunics, seated around a blanket full of simple bites and friends, we bask in the balmy breeze. We stay hydrated and satisfied before a summer evening meal!
