Year of the Snake

Posted on: Monday, February 11, 2013

In honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year, we bundled up, ventured into Nemo’s aftermath, and meandered through the condensed maze that is Chinatown. While it was a tad too late in the afternoon to commit to a feast of dumplings at Winsor Dim Sum or a big plate of garlicky stir-fried beef and noodles at China Pearl, we opted to pick up some mid-afternoon treats at Ho Yuen Bakery and Great Tastes Bakery and Cafe. Both classic shops feature an array of assorted mooncakes, fruit covered cakes, green matcha tea swirled rolls, egg tartlets, and sesame seed buns, to highlight just a few. We both stepped out of our flavor and texture comfort zones when we opted for a steamed roast pork bun and a red bean bun.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2013 is the Year of the Snake so interpret that as you will!
