While on Martha’s Vineyard, our close family friends brought the ultimate cocktail to a sunset beach gathering on Lambert’s Cove. Traveling and living in many parts of Brazil, Bob and Jill found coquiñas sold at many stands on the beaches and markets. Coquiñas are coconuts commonly filled with Cachaça as an afternoon refresher. Bob and Jill’s Vineyard variation uses vodka, and the addition was quite the hit.
Using a small drill bit or screwdriver, punch a hole through the exterior of the coconut until you reach the center. Insert a small funnel into the hole and pour 1 shot of vodka inside. Cap with a small cork or whittled piece of wood, and refrigerate. The longer you let the coconuts steep, the stronger! 
Sitting in the sand, we sipped our coquiñas while sampling grilled mussels, pulled pork tacos, and assorted kebabs while taking in the vast ocean views. One strawful of the subtly sweet spiked juice transplants you to a coastal town on the South Atlantic Ocean. The beverage is also beach-friendly- it can rest upright in the sand without tipping or getting sandy inside. 
These treats are sure worth the wait!
